Small Beach

Posted by Ivan Stojanovic On 31 March 2010

Ulcinj This is a city beach with a sandy strand. The sand is fine, of high quality and the sea bottom is sandy too. Because of that the color of the water is dark green-blue. This beach is distinctive for its shallow bottom which goes far into the sea. That’s why it is very suitable for children.

The Small Beach is 360 m long and its capacity is 2 500 people. At the very end of the beach, beneath the Old Town, where the walls emerge as if directly from the sea, is a small Ulcinj port (360 m) with a well managed pier. In its background there are restaurants, beer bars, cafes, and towards the inside is the town Ulcinj-the southernmost spot of the Montenegrin coast-line. Ulcinj is built in sea-oriental style.

Bar

Posted by Ivan Stojanovic On 30 March 2010

Bar Like most Montenegrin towns, throughout its history Bar has belonged to various civilizations and cultures. What makes it stand out among Montenegrin towns today is that it is representative of several of the cultures that it belongs to, and in some cases had belonged to for centuries. Here, the heritage of one epoch would become the ground for development of the next. In the new heritage one could always clearly recognize the achievements of its predecessor.

As a city of olives, the sea gate of Montenegro, long-lasting melting-pot of different confessions and nations, Bar represents a mix of modernity, tradition and beauty. It is an important and dynamic economic centre within Montenegro, but is also a town of rich cultural and historical tradition. Some of the highest achievements of Montenegro’s civilization originated in Bar. The oldest written documents and the most important work of medieval Montenegrin literature and history can be found here. The town also served as the seat of the oldest religious institution of Montenegro (the Bar archbishopric). One of the world’s oldest olive trees grows here, the Old Olive of Mirovica, which is more than 2000 years old.

The rich cultural and historical tradition of the Bar area is combined with the unique gifts of nature, a friendly climate and a remarkable geographical position.

The pleasant Mediterranean climate attracts a large number of tourists each year. With an average of 270 sunny days per year, Bar is one of the Mediterranean’s sunniest towns. The 44 kilometre-long sea coast, including over 9 kilometres of beaches, the 67 kilometre-long shore of Lake Skadar and the mountain range dividing these two large bodies of water make Bar an ideal destination for tourists who wish to relax on lovely beaches and enjoy the unspoilt environment, as well as for those wanting to visit the numerous cultural and religious sites or to spend their holidays engaged in various sports activities.

Pavlova Strana

Pavlova Strana

Pavlova Strana is one of the most photographed places in Montenegro, which is almost unavoidable when it comes to travel guides, websites, calendars and postcards. This viewpoint owes its photogenic to river Crnojevića, which here  connects with the Skadar Lake . One can not accurately determine whether in this place the river enters the lake or oposit. Perhaps it is best to say that this is periodically changing. This  representative viewpoint is on the road from Podgorica to the place of Riijeka Crnojevića and it’s very rare for someone not to stop  and feel the beauty of this jewel of the National Park Skadar Lake. Besides enjoying the view it is possible to organize boating. The best time to come is in the period from May to October because of water lilies  that further contribute to the charms of this stunning landscape.

Sušica Canyon

Posted by Ivan Stojanovic On 27 March 2010

Kanjon Sušice National park of Durmitor is surrounded by 5 impressive canyons – Tara Canyon, Piva Canyon, Komarnica Canyon, Draga Canyon and Sušica Canyon. On the western side of Durmitor is placed one of the most beautiful canyon of Montenegro – Sušica Canyon. Precisely, that impressive canyon with its amazing untouchable wild beauty is placed between the high cliffs of the SW part of Durmitor’s massif. On both sides, Sušica Canyon is surrounded by high vasty plateaus. Sušica Canyon is connected with Dolina Škrčkih jezera (Škrka Lakes Valley), another pearl of Durmitor National Park.

In the past Sušica river flows in usual river’s valley. After glacial erosion the water of Sušica river created Sušičko Jezero (Sušica Lake), which belong to the group of few periodical lakes in Durmitor. The glacier which was moved through the Sušica Canyon was 10 km long. During time of most intensive glaciation that glacier created some geological and morphological effects at the altitude 1140 m. Because of that influence Sušičko Jezero was formed. During melting of glacier the lake existed like a permanent object.
